Mike Madden
Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer
Mike Madden, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer, joined the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago in July 2008. Mike is responsible for leading and advancing the Information Technology area that provides software, hardware, telecommunications and infrastructure support to the thousands of members and employees of the organization. He brings strong leadership and experience to the Y and believes that technology, business process improvement, collaboration, common sense, and innovative thinking should be used hand-in-hand to continuously improve the “customer experience” for members and employees.
Prior to his role at the Y, Mike worked in the City Manager’s Office for the City of Evanston, IL where he developed and managed the City’s first Business Performance & Technology Division. In this capacity, Mike managed and advanced city-wide technical operations and business process improvement initiatives. He also developed the City’s first Information Technology Strategic Plan, one of only two plans to win an award in 2007 from the Association for Strategic Planning.
Previously, Mike was the CEO and President of Madden Consulting Group, Inc., an independent management consulting practice. Between 2001 and 2005, he was engaged by multiple public, private, and nonprofit clients, including the YMCA of the USA.
Prior to Madden Consulting, Mike was the Deputy Director of Consulting at the Government Finance Officer’s Association where he managed technology-focused consulting engagements for more than 40 public sector organizations across the country. Before that, he was a Deputy Chief Information Officer in the Business and Information Services Department at the City of Chicago and an Assistant Vice President in Corporate and Community Banking Operations at Harris Trust and Savings Bank in downtown Chicago.
Mike has a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration from Northwestern University and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame. He has taught thousands of business professionals across the country on various technology subjects and has published pieces on matters including application acquisition and implementation; parallel contract negotiations for technology projects; enterprise resource planning systems; and application service providers.
