Lynn Norman
Vice President and General Counsel
Lynn E. Norman, vice president and general counsel of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, is responsible for the Association’s legal affairs involving its membership centers and camps in three states, housing, social service programs, government grants and internal corporate affairs. Lynn also manages all YMCA litigation and negotiates and manages its myriad contractual relations that include collaborations with other corporate (not-for-profit and for-profit) and governmental entities. Among other duties, Lynn is an integral part of the Association’s active real estate program, which evaluates the Y’s presence in relation to community needs.
Lynn started her legal career in the corporate law department at McDermott, Will & Emery and later practiced with Greenberger, Krause & Jacobs, Chtd.’s corporate and secured lending group, before moving in-house. Prior to joining the YMCA in 2002, she was in-house counsel for several manufacturing entities, including Brunswick Corporation where Lynn handled agent agreements, export licensing issues and other regulatory matters for Brunswick’s Technical Group and served as its Division counsel, AM International, Inc. where Lynn was primary legal counsel for AM International’s Sheridan Systems division, a major supplier of systems and components to the printing and newspaper publishing industries, and Van Den Burgh Foods Company, a division of Unilever. After a couple years back in private practice at Grippo & Elden, Lynn moved in-house again with the financial services provider Cash Station, Inc., and its successor Concord EFS.
Lynn’s first career was as an economist for the U.S. Department of Labor where she analyzed import and export price movements and identified trends in selected areas of international trade.
Lynn is a member of the American Bar Association, the Business Law Section and the Non-Profit Corporation committee of the ABA.
Lynn earned a J.D. degree from Boston University School of Law and a B.S.F.S. degree from Georgetown University.
