Kathleen Hechinger

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Kathleen Hechinger, executive vice president and chief financial officer for the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, joined the Y in February 2008. She is a member of the senior management team and responsible for oversight of the organization’s financial function, budgeting, financial reporting, treasury, government contracts, audit, retirement benefits, and office management.

Prior to joining the YMCA, Kathleen spent eight years consulting for a variety of nonprofit and for profit entities. Projects included development of long-range financial plans, project feasibility studies, and analysis of business operations.

Kathleen also worked at The Cradle, an Evanston-based, non-profit adoption agency, as vice president of administration and finance. During her six-year tenure, she was responsible for oversight of all financial operations, human resources, technology and building operations.

From 1989 to 1995, Kathleen worked at the Museum of Contemporary Art. She joined the museum as controller and later served as finance manager of the new museum project. During this time, she was responsible for the coordination and issuance of tax-exempt bonds for building the new museum facility, as well as long-range planning for the museum’s growth.

Kathleen began her career as a senior auditor at Andersen, specializing in audits of non-profit organizations.

Aside from her professional experience in the non-profit management and financial sector, Kathleen has taught finance-related courses at The School of the Art Institute and the University of Chicago.

Kathleen is a certified public accountant and has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. Kathleen lives in Wilmette with her husband and two teenage sons. Her two adult children benefited from YMCA after-school programs and summer camp during their grade school years.
